INTRODUCTION TO CAPACITY MEASUREMENT

INTRODUCTION TO CAPACITY MEASUREMENT
Measuring Liquid Volume - The Lesson Study Group
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

Explain measurement
  • Differentiate between capacity and volume
Change centilitres to litres and vice  versa

What is Measurement?
Measurement could be referred to as a unit or system of measuring size, length, or amount of something, as established by measuring scale.

Capacity: It is the amount of liquid a container or bottle can hold

Volume: It is the amount of liquid that is in a container at a particular time.

Capacity Measurement

10 milliliters (mL)    = 1 centilitre (cL)
10 centilitres    = 1 decilitres(dL) = 100 millilitres
10 decilitres    = 1 litre

Note: 1000 millilitres = 1 litre

  100 centilitres = 1 litre

👉Take your Starter Task
CONVERSION FROM LITRES TO CENTILITRES

Example:

To change from litres to centilitres, you will multiply the number with 100.

question 1: CONVERT 2 LITRES TO CENTILITERS

2 x 100 = 200 cl

Question 2: Convert 4l to centiliters

= 4 x 100 =400

Answer= 400cl

Question 3: Convert 5.3l to centiliters

= 5.3 x 100 = 530cl

Answer = 530cl

Conversion from centiliters to litres

To convert from centilitres to litres, we will divide the number by 100

Examples: Convert the following to litres

1.700cl

700

100 = 7L

2. 650cl

650  = 6L 50cl

100

3. 852cl

852 = 8L 52cl

100
